Mihir Sen

Mihir Sen {November 16, 1930 in Purulia - 1997) was an Indian lawyer more notable for his career as a record-setting swimmer.
On September 27 1958, he became the first Indian to swim the English Channel.
April 6, 1966 he became the first man on record to swim the Indian Ocean between Ceylon and India, the Palk Straits.[citation needed]
September 12, 1966 became the first man ever to swim the 40 miles of the Straits Dardanelles between Gallipoli in Europe and Seddulbahir in Asia in 13 hours 55 minutes.[citation needed]
In 1966, he swam across the Palk strait, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Dardanelles, the Bosphorus, and the Panama Canal, thereby setting the record for longest distance swum.
He swam more than 600km in sea/ocean water.
In 1959 he was awarded the Padma Shree, and in 1967, the Padma Bhushan.
