MiKTeX is a TeX/LaTeX distribution for Microsoft Windows. It is developed by Christian Schenk.
Significant features of MiKTeX are its ability to update itself by downloading new versions of previously installed components and packages, and an easy installation process.
The current version of MiKTeX is 2.5. It is available at the MiKTeX homepage.
MiKTeX version 2.6 is under development and planned for release in the second quarter of 2007. Version 2.6's planned features include support for MetaPost and pdfTeX and compatibility with Windows Vista.
MiKTeX version 2.7 is not under development yet, but is planned for release in the second half of 2007. It adds XeTeX to MiKTeX's list of features.
