Michael Garver "Mike" Oxley (born February 11, 1944) is an American politician of the Republican party who served as a U.S. representative from the Fourth Congressional District of Ohio.

[edit] Early life
A member of the Lutheran church, Oxley was born in Findlay, Ohio and received a bachelor of arts degree from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in 1966 and a law degree from the Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio) in 1969.
From 1969 to 1972, Oxley worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and became active in the Ohio Republican Party, serving as a delegate numerous times in the 1970s. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1972 to 1981.
[edit] Congressional career
Oxley was elected a U.S. representative in 1981 in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of U.S. Representative Tennyson Guyer. Oxley began serving at this post in 1981 (97th Congress).
Before and during his tenure in Congress, Oxley represented Ohio as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976 and 1984. He is currently the chairman of the Committee on Financial Services, and he was co-sponsor to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
After facing the most difficult reelection campaign of his career in 2004, winning 59% of the vote, against Democrat Ben Konop, Oxley announced his retirement from Congress on November 1, 2005, effective at the end of his term in 2007.
