Milton Mallawarachchi (1945 – 1998) is a popular Sri Lankan musician. He burst on to the Sinhala popular music scene with "Oruwaka Pawena" in 1969. Following this big break, Mallawarchchi had many hits. His best known songs include "Thaniwi Sitinai" (English: I Was Planning To Live Alone) and "Sihinen Oba Mata" (English: You Come To Me in My Dreams).
Mallawarachchi has also done playback singing beginning with the 1971 film, Poojithayo. In 1984, he was honored with a best playback singer award at the Sarasawiya Awards for "Kendan Yannam" which he sang in Sena Samarasinghe's Aethin Aethat. Mallawarchchi was a popular live attraction as well; at a time when there was no TV in Sri Lanka, his appearances at variety shows sponsored by the Ceylon Tobacco Company drew huge crowds. He passed away on March 10, 1998.[1]
Mallawarachchi was married to Swarna Mallawarchchi, and had four children: Ranil, Harshini, Nadija, and Tharaka.[2] Ranil, the eldest, continues in his father's tradition.
