Miss Scranton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Miss Scranton is the title awarded to the winner of the annual Miss Scranton Overall Excellence Competition, a time-honored tradition in Scranton, PA.
Candidates must be female, between 14 and 18, hail from the greater metropolitan Scranton, PA area, and submit a detailed application, including character references, multiple essays, and an 8x10 glossy. Candidates are then screened by a panel of local luminaries to determine their standing in a number of categories, including (but not limited to) Aesthetic Appeal, Rhetorical Skill, Hand-Eye Coordination, and Hygiene.
Once crowned Miss Scranton, the lucky lady serves a term of one year, beginning on or about the Ides of March. After her term is up, however, she traditionally retains the title "Miss Scranton" as an honorific.
Former Miss Scranton winners include Dunmore, PA dental hygenist Ashley Damocles, Waverly, PA hairdresser Shauna McLeod, and Philadelphia, PA socialite Meredith Morgan, not to mention the luscious Andrew Davis who won after shredding her knee in a sports related injury, or so she told the judges.
