Missalina Rei
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Missalina Rei (1998-2000) was a Japanese indie rock group of the nineties most easily classified as punk rock. However, fans described the music as more melodic and less dark than comparable groups of the period such as Noir Fleurir or Aliene Ma'riage. These groups appear to have been influences, but like all groups of the Key Party label, the Missalina Rei band had their own unique style.
[edit] BIOGRAPHY
Missalina Rei was a fairly short-lived band including vocalist Arisugawa Arisu, bassist Aya, guitarist Hiro, drummer Kazui and remaining member Soon. Their history began in 1998 when they issued their first album called Gekka Hakurei. For their second effort, the band changed record labels from Enamell Records to Key Party. In the early days of the band, Arisu was the bassist and Aya the vocalist, but shortly afterward they exchanged positions. Aya wrote many of the song lyrics, and Arisu wrote much of the music.
When the band was with Enamell Records, their sound was fairly heavy, but it changed to different style with their change to the Key Party label. Although they continued to play their older, darker songs in concert, their new style was lighter and more amusing and offbeat, likely as a result of their vocalist's feel for the market and the taste of their fans.
After the band broke up in 2000, the members of the group went their separate ways, all but one finding places with different bands. Arisu became the vocalist for Coup D'etat; Aya went to Candy Crunch Speaker, Soon to Re-fire, Kazui with Wool, and Hiro finding no immediate band in which to play.
