Route 26 was one of the original 1922 Missouri highways. Its eastern terminus was at Route 13 in Osceola, its western terminus was at the Kansas state line west of Deerfield. Between Osceola and El Dorado Springs, it is now part of Route 82, west of El Dorado Springs, the highway became part of U.S. Route 54.
