Route 70 was one of the original 1922 Missouri highways. Its eastern terminus was at Route 9 (now part of U.S. Highway 67) in Fredericktown. Its western terminus was at Route 21 in Ironton. It is now part of Route 72, renumbered to avoid duplication with Interstate 70.
