[edit] Your signature
Hi there! I recently uploaded an SVG image which made the previous PNG obsolete. The image in question is of a paw print. I was seeing what templates still had the PNG and noticed your signature, which violates Wikipedia rules: Wikipedia:Signatures#Images. :) --Indolences 05:19, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I am quite familiar with WP:SIG. As I've already told others, WP:SIG is guideline, not a policy, and I therefore do not have to abide by it until they make it so. If they wanted to make absolutely sure that nobody used images in signatures, they would make it a policy. As it stands as a guideline, dissent from ranks is perhaps not encouraged, but you cannot rightfully tell me it is against the rules. And until they produce verifiable sources to prove it, I disagree that an image containing less than 10kb of information will bring Wikipedia to a grinding halt (I did switch your svg file for the png that was in my signature before). And if "it is generally believed that signatures are considered to serve no use to the encyclopedia project," I ask what use is any other kind of personalization? That quote, and these:
-
- "they are potentially distracting from the actual message"
- "images in signatures give undue prominence to a given user's contribution"
- "they reduce searchability, making pages more difficult to read"
- ...can easily be said about any signature personalization. The next one:
-
- "they clutter up the "file links" list on the image page every time you sign on a different talk page"
- I'm sorry, it is not my fault Wikipedia allows the "file links" page to display talk pages, project pages, etc. The same problem is encountered by a "featured picture" when many people put that on their user page. I could go on, but I won't. Thanks again for politely guiding me to WP:SIG unlike some have in the past. I hope you agree with me that as long as it remains a guideline and not a policy, I have the right to display whatever I please in my signature. :-D. Have a wonderful day! - Ohh thanks for the info! I had not realized the "guideline" part; I had just seen the and thought "Oh, this is a must!". -Indolences 04:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Signpost
I honestly don't know; the bot seems to screw up about 1% of the time, with no apparent reason for doing so. Sorry; let me know if it screws up next week too. Ral315 » 23:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
