Mohammed Abacha
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mohammed Abacha is the eldest surviving son of Nigeria's former military dictator, the late General Sani Abacha. He is currently believed to be the head of the Abacha family.
In 1999, he was arrested and charged with the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola (wife of MKO Abiola) and the attempted murder of Mr. Ibru (head of Guardian Newspaper - an opposition newspaper). Abacha was ultimately acquitted and released by President Olusegun Obasanjo after an agreement was reached between the government and the Abacha family that they would hand over the balance of funds embezzled during his father's rule 1, though this is widely seen to have been politically motivated 2. Abacha has since disavowed the terms of this deal, but remains at large due to considerable political support for the Abacha family, particularly in northern Nigeria.
Like his father, Mohammed Abacha is frequently referenced in 419 scams. He is presently married with two children, a son named after his father and a girl.
