Cathexis: Ca·thex·is (pronounced "k&-'thek-s&s ") is a Greek word that was later redefined by Freud; it is mental or emotional energy placed on a person, object, or idea. Freud thought of cathexis as a "psychic analog of an electric charge."
Today, the term is once again being redefined by the music of Cathexis. Based around the song-writing and music of John Riccio, Cathexis' inception came out of his upbringing in Fairfield, CT. The soundscape of Cathexis was further developed by the influence of New Orleans culture. After becoming immersed in the local New Orleans music scene, Cathexis headed overseas and settled in London, England, developing a fan-base and playing shows all over Europe.
Cathexis returned to the United States and called Hollywood, CA, its home. Catching the eyes and ears of Ethan Allen (Throwing Muses, James Hall /Pleasure Club, 50 Foot Wave), Cathexis recorded a batch of songs with the producer that would be included on a self-titled EP. The EP, which was co-produced by John Riccio and Ethan Allen, is filled with soulful, introspective songs that blend Rock, Pop, Indie, Electronica, and Americana. Jeff McCarty, the filmmaker behind Ballad Of Pony Boy, has described Cathexis as "the prettiest songs this side of Nick Drake. John Riccio has a natural gift, and I'm proud to have his music in my film. " Nancy Sjostrom, a newer fan, said of Cathexis, " I love his songs sooo much. I love the vocals and the lyrics and the music. I'm gushing but I really like them an awful lot and wish there were more." Wherever Cathexis goes and whatever it becomes, the group will continue to redefine itself, but always be bound to the song, and what's best for it - electric charges and all. Cathexis
Orange Park: was formed in New York City in 2001 by Jeff Moore, his brother Justin Moore, cousin Jaye Moore and Harv. The band immediately started touring the U.S. and quickly gained a reputation as a great live band, playing in NYC with acts such as The Strokes, Longwave, and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. In 2002 they met producer Pete Min (Longwave, Sea Ray) and soon recorded their self released EP "The Extended Play" which received extensive airplay on college radio, Sirius Satellite Radio, the Spin Magazine Syndicated College Radio Show and the Cornerstone Player Compilation. After a four-page article in the New York Times in 2003, the band was approached by the Japanese television network NHK, who filmed a documentary on the band that created a huge buzz over seas. Orange Park soon recorded their full-length album 'Songs From The Unknown' with producer Pete Thornton, before touring Japan in the fall of 2004. The band instantly attracted the attention of Japanese label King Records who released the album soon after. New York indie label Young American Recordings released the album in June 2005 in North America, and the single "Make Up Your Mind" has already topped charts at college radio and CMJ, and was featured on MTV's The Real World Austin and in the Xbox 360 video game Saints Row. After touring the U.S. and Eastern Europe through the rest of 2005, Orange Park has returned to New York City to work on material for their new album. Orange Park
Jason Tillery: Jason Tillery's voice is similar to the Hammond organ rugged but sweet, sturdy, soulful and fresh but still summoning up an earlier time. It will come as a surprise to exactly no one who hears his songs that Jason was raised on Southern Rock and folk music, well above the Mason Dixon line in his native Michigan. A self taught musician who began to write his own music in college, Jason's musical background isn't much different from many rock musicians in Atlanta, his current home base. His voice, his songs and his stellar live performance are what set him apart from the rest of Atlanta's current rock scene. Bad breakups and some very lonely times have given Jason an old soul which enable him to write songs from the gut. Listening to his writing style it become evident that he writes hit records. In the past he has collaborated with Bonecrusher, Clay Cook, Kristi Cook, and YOU. He is currently put the finishing touch on his debut CD, which will be out later this year. His voice and his songs have a weight and emotion rarely found in rock music today, much less on the Southeastern club circuit. Jason is building a strong fan base playing with noted such performers as Matthew Sweet, Michael Tolcher, Pat Dinizzio (Smithereens), and Shawn Mullins. His live performances remind you quickly that his old soul is embedded in a vibrant performer, whether performing with his band or as a solo acoustic act. He has made his mark locally playing at Cotton Club, 10 High, Smith's and Eddie's Attic. Jason Tillery
