Mongaguá is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population in 2003 is 40,049, the density is 280.86/km² and the area is 143 km². The origin of the name comes from the Tupi language.
The municipality's street plan are entirely grid lining from SSE to NNW and much of the houses are within the Atlantic Ocean. The entirely-forested mountains cover the north. Much of the municipality are forested, the remainder are urban areas. The BR-101 superhighway linking Santos and the southern part of the state runs through Mongaguá. The freeway to the city of São Paulo is also accessed. Housing developments arrived in the 1970s and the 1990s which are aligned with its beach and prior, the population were mainly rural. Housing developments continues to this day.
