Monkey Spunky
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Monkey Spunky were a punk band who toured London between 1976 and 1982. They were never offered a recording contract after issuing a statement which read "We knew we are popular but we will never sell out. We regard music for people and not to make a company richer".
The band consisted of Alistar Hamilton-Smith on lead vocals and lead guitar, Paul Wyndupp on bass guitar and Dave Cook on drums.
While Wyndupp and Cook moved into obscurity after the band broke up in 1982, Hamilton-Smith gained an unsavoury reputation as the leader of The Wimbledon Posh Boys, a football hooligan firm. However in 1996 a possible re-union was almost held as the band were offered a slot on the Sex Pistols's Fithy Lucre comeback show in London's Finsbury Park. Hamilton-Smith was in favour but Wyndupp and Cook refused to ever work with him again.
On February 21st 2007 Dave Cook and Alistar Hamilton-Smith announced that a reunion tour of "famous music pubs" in London would start in August 2007. One likely venue is to be The Dublin Castle where the band played many times in the late 1970's.
The band finally announced the tour details on March 8th 2007. It weill begin on August 1st 2007 at The Dublin Castle and will consist of 23 dates. The tour will be called the "A complete wind up tour."
