Monster from the id

The Monster from the id is an invisible being imperivious to laser blasters or any other form of attack. It can punch through metal walls and melt them with considerable ease. It is not shown until two-thirds of the way into Forbidden Planet.
During the final 30 minutes, the Monster from the id is revealed to be the subconscious mind of Dr. Edward Morbius (Walter Pidgeon), as id is another word for the subconcious mind. He throws himself at the feet of the monster at the climax, thereby killing himself and saving his daughter and the Commander, John Adams.
