The Monte Generoso (Calvagione) is located in the Lepontine Alps, between Lake Lugano and Lake Como. The western and southern flanks of the mountain lie in the Swiss canton of Ticino, whilst the north-eastern flanks are in the Italian region of Lombardy. The summit lies on the border.[1]
The summit can be reached by the Monte Generoso Railway, a rack railway that starts from Capolago in Switzerland, and approaches the summit via the western flank of the montain. There is also a road that reaches Bellavista (an intermediate station on the railway) from Mendrisio in Switzerland.[1]
