Montwood High School, El Paso
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Montwood High School is a four year (grades 9th–12th) High school located in East El Paso, Texas. The school was completed in 1990, just in time for the 1990 school year. The school was opened serving grades 7, 8, 9, 10 and would gain a grade/lose a grade until the first graduating class of 1993. Montwood also has many academic programs such as Advanced Placement, Gifted and Talented, Dual Credit and Synergy. Montwood High is located on Montwood Drive right off of Loop 375.
In January 2003, the school "rioted" over block scheduling, with over 1,000 students walking out of 2nd period to protest the Socorro Independent School District's decision to implement the change.

[edit] Aca-Dec
Montwood took home the title of city champions at the 2006-2007 Academic Decathlon meet held at Ysleta High School. Due to weather conditions, the competition was held on a single day, compressing the normally two day meet into a true one day decathlon event. This marks the first time Socorro ISD as representing El Paso at the state level, and the first in over 15 years an East Side School has won the award.
