Monty Novotny
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Monty Novotny was an American luthier who came to prominence after working at ODE Banjo Company (later OME) of Boulder, Colorado. Novotny later went onto NBN guitars with two partners, brothers Reb and Andy Bennett. Reb and Andy both were builders; Reb also handled most customer relations; Andy bent all the sides. Monty later went out on his own as Novotny custom guitars and Banjos in Longmont, Colorado. Regular customers included Pete Wernick & Tim O'Brian of Hot Rize, Puna of Navarro and Stephen Stills. Novotny died in the early 1980s. His instruments are now considered collectable. Novotny built an occasional electric guitar and bass.
The NBN guitars are the first production guitars to employ a removable, bolt-on neck. Novotny made the necks for Winfield, Kansas guitar factory, Mossman.
