[edit] Regarding the Rock'em, Sock'em Robots failure
I don't remember the heads being welded to the cars as indicated in the article. Originally Jesse made two heads and identically tack welded each to a plate. The teams where then allowed to mount the _plate_ as securely to the vehicle as they could. One of the teams had the idea to mount the plate on springs(valve return springs IIRC). This caused a controversy because the other team felt, correctly, that the springs would allow the head to take a much greater hit without breaking the tack welds than a more rigidly mounted one. I believe the inclusion of the spring mount arouse out of a difference in interpretation of the 'off the cuff' mounting instructions given by Jesse about attaching the plates. The issue was settled with a coin toss by Jesse, I do not recall the exact resolution at this time. Perhaps someone with the episodes on DVD (if they're available) confirm this? The whole section of the article was dead wrong--it listed the xB as losing the contest. (It didn't.) I rewrote it; someone feel free to check my math. --Billfred 01:36, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
