Mostly Autumn
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mostly Autumn is a British band, producing music influenced at least by progressive rock, most obviously Genesis and Pink Floyd, and folk music.
Mostly Autumn was formed in the late 1990's. Their original lineup (as listed on their first album) included Bryan Josh (electric guitar, vocals, 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars, e-bow), Heather Findlay (vocals, tambourine, 6 string acoustic guitar), Iain Jennings (keyboards, vocals), Liam Davison (electric guitar, vocals, 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars), Bob Faulds (violins), Stuart Carver (bass guitar), Kev Gibbons (low whistle, high whistle) and Allan Scott (drums). Angela Goldthorpe and Che were credited as additional musicians, with the former becoming a regular band member later.
On their second album Allan Scott was replaced by Rob McNeil and for their third album in 2001 he in turn has been replaced by Jonathan Blackmore (no relation to Ritchie), while Andy Smith replaced Stuart Carver on bass.
The current line-up is Bryan Josh, Heather Findlay, Angela Gordon (née Goldthorpe), Chris Johnson (keyboards and guitar), Andy Smith (bass), Gavin Griffiths (drums) and Olivia Sparnenn (backing vocals).
Iain Jennings left the band at the beginning of 2006 to pursue his own musical ambitions and has put together his own band, Breathing Space, as well as contributing to projects by other artists. He released a solo album, Breathing Space, in late 2005.
Ben Matthews of Thunder stood in on keyboards for the band's headline gig at the Baja Prog Festival in Mexico in March 2006. Chris Johnson was then recruited as a permanent replacement, with Angela Gordon also taking a more prominent role on keyboards.
At the beginning of 2007 both Liam Davison and Andrew Jennings left the band, Liam to concentrate on his solo album and Andrew to devote his time to his other band, Snowfight In The City Centre. Ex-Karnataka and Fish-drummer Gavin Griffiths was recruited to fill the drum stool but the band decided not to replace Liam Davison, preferring to either adapt the songs as necessary or use Chris Johnson or Heather Findlay for additional guitar duties as appropriate.
During 2005 Heather Findlay and Angela Gordon formed an acoustic side project called Odin Dragonfly. As such, they have made several live appearances in 2005 and 2006 and are currently recording their first album entitled Offerings.

[edit] Trivia
- One of the well-known Mostly Autumn album characteristics is that the first song of a new record tends to literally begin from where the last song of previous album left off. The final seconds of the preceding album's last song are audible at the beginning before a smooth fadeout. However, this tradition was broken for the subscribers' limited edition of the Heart Full Of Sky album, which has no carry-over from the previous album.
- Heather Findlay contributed to Arjen Lucassen's Ayreon project on The Human Equation album in 2004, singing the part of Love.
- Away from Mostly Autumn, Heather Findlay and Angela Gordon perform together as Odin Dragonfly (the name is an anagram of Findlay Gordon).
