Mountain View is a CDP located in Stokes County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,004.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 km² (1.9 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 1,008 people, 512 households, and 253 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 321.1/km² (811.7/mi²). There are 507 housing units at an average density of 166.4/km² (380.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.11% White, 4.72% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.OO% from two or more races. 4.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 512 households out of which 29.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.5% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% are non-families. 21.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.88 and the average family size is 2.21.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 16.5% under the age of 18, 3.1% from 18 to 24, 22.7% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $32,093, and the median income for a family is $38,124. Males have a median income of $34,121 versus $26,713 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $18,132. 15.9% of the population and 9.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 16.2% of those under the age of 18 and 10.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
