[edit] Previous history
MoveOnUp was first created as a concept during the fall of 2005 by Jacob A. Lysgaard (aka Totem the dj) and Anders Mathiesen (aka Smooth Anders), and made it to the airwaves in January 2006, with said two persons as hosts.
MoveOnUp started playing Soul, Funk, Rare grooves and Disco previously unheard in Norway, bringing such artists as Vidar Busk, Sylvia Wrethammar, Karin Krogh and various others to the spotlight, and growing both in programming quality, listeners and critical acclaim.
During the spring season of 2006 the crew grew one man stronger, as technician Jørgen Burdal took his place behind the mixer. Then, in the summer of 2006, Anders moved with his girlfriend to Oslo to pursue his studies, while Jacob and Jørgen continued to make the program.
[edit] Musical style
MoveOnUp strives to dig up not only the mainstream Soul music, but also to "bring to light the forgotten (or never discovered) artists and talents of all sub-genres and geographical locations". It is believed by most of the public that all soul music are American, but during the seventies and all the way to present day there has been a large amount of music coming from Norway, where the show is aired, or eastern Europe for that matter. The program turned quite a few heads when it played tracks from the band Bemibem, with tracks such as "uz ci nigdy nie przyrzekne", a now MoveOnUp classic.
[edit] Future Plans
StudentRadioen i Bergen are currently housed in privisory housing outside Historisk-filosofisk fakultet, but during the winter of 2006/2007 will move to its new locals in the just-built Studentsenteret on Nygårdshøyden. It's self-run studios will (hopefully) contribute to bringing the quality of the show to new hights.
The hosts have several plans, among other things interviews with several local black music personalities and specials on artists and labels such as a Sam Cooke and his SAR Records.
