[edit] Polemics to Save Your Mind
You won't find evidence of the Stockholm syndrome, here. I love Die deutschsprachige Wikipedia.
[edit] Data Mining for POV
Data mining in the pejorative sense is indeed possible on Wikipedia. And, it can be used to answer the question: Is there a definite POV expressed on Wikipedia in the articles on health and medicine? My mining activities have clearly shown that the answer is a definite: YES.
All you got to do is know where to look. -- Mr-Natural-Health 15:04, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)
March 15, 2004: The German, French, Spanish and English editions of Wikipedia clearly express a different POV. The markers used in my review for the expressed POV on Wikipedia are:
- Their respective coverage of the World Health Organization, Health, and Prophylaxis articles.
- WHO-The French and Spanish editions reference the WHO's definition of health provided in its constitution. Presumably, the WHO's definition of health is left out of the English edition because it mirrors an alternative medicine perspective on health. The German edition looks like a straight translation of an earlier version of the English edition and is very poorly developed.
- Health-The English edition talks about homeostasis and the health article is not even listed on the Main page. While the German, French, and Spanish editions reference the WHO's definition of health. The German edition does an outstanding job of providing a large volume of text on health from an individual's alternative medicine perspective and classifies it on its main page under the category: Humans. The French edition discusses health as a worldwide social agenda and classifies health in its main page under the category: Everyday life and leisure.
- WHO's definition-Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and does not consist only of the absence of disease or infirmity.
- Even comparing the English and German editions of the article Human makes an interesting study. The English version of course is totally scientific and has a picture of a naked man and women. While the German version has an interesting discussion on the very non-scientific differences between humans and animals, discusses cultural development, and has a picture of Albert Einstein sticking his tongue out. In short, the German version on humans is more human from its perspective.
- Prophylaxis-The English version is poorly developed and is not much more than a stub. The German version is fairly well developed from an alternative medicine perspective. The French and Spanish versions have yet to be written presumably due to a low number of total articles that have been written to date for these respective editions.
- Their respective coverage of the subject of Preventive medicine from the perspective of conventional medicine.
- Their respective coverage of the philosophy of Alternative medicine.
[edit] English Edition POV (Obfuscation through science)
- February 2004 statistics: 213,000 articles--Making it the biggest edition.
- Coverage of the World Health Organization, Health, and Prophylaxis articles.
- Shocking lack of coverage on Preventive medicine from the perspective of conventional medicine.
- Health examinations, Health screenings, Preventive health services, Disease prevention, Health promotion, Screening tests, Physical examinations
- Alternative medicine is viewed as de facto Quackery.
- Articles on the philosophy of alternative medicine are non-existent.
- Alternative medicine articles are characterized by edit wars.
[edit] German Edition POV (Informative through humans as individuals.)
I will be adding links to these German web pages on my web site as well as a review of the German Edition. Sorry, but I will not be able to recommend the shallow POV of the English Edition. -- Mr-Natural-Health 15:04, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- February 2004 statistics: 54,000 articles
- As the next biggest edition, the German edition is only one quarter the size of the English version, it makes the significance of the following findings even more significant.
- Coverage of the Weltgesundheitsorganisation (World Health Organization), Gesundheit (Health), and Prophylaxe (Prophylaxis) articles.
- Informative rather than obscuring
- The significance of the information is clearly pointed out.
- Friendly and inviting tone to health and medical articles.
- Informative rather than obscuring
- Offers full coverage of preventive medicine and comments on alternative treatment methods can be found in the articles on conventional medicine.
- Risikomedizin (Risk medicine)
- Risikofaktor (Modifiable Risk Factors)
- Vorsorgeprogramm (Screening program)
- Früherkennung von Krankheiten (Early recognition of diseases)
- Hygiene
- Onkologie (the science of cancer).
- Offers comments on alternative treatment methods of treating cancer.

[edit] French Edition POV (Social Policy)
- February 2004 statistics: 28,000 articles
- The limited number of total articles written precludes good coverage on any issue.
- While the branches of medicine articles in the article on medicine are largely yet to be written, the medicine article ends with a section on alternative medicine (Les médecines parallèles) with 6 out of the 7 branches of alternative medicine written.
- Médecine (Medicine)
- A separate article on les médecines parallèles or de médecine alternative has yet to be written.
[edit] Spanish Edition POV
- February 2004 statistics: 18,000 articles
- The limited number of total articles written precludes good coverage on any issue.
