[edit] G80

G80 "rumors" have been reported and independently cofirmed by various "news" sites. Very rarely are specifications for any kind of processing hardware released to the general public, they are stolen from internal engineering presentations or leaked by egineers. The vast majority of the information already on the table did not originate, in fact, with nVidia. My intent with adding that to the article was primarily to begin the work of adding the information for a new generation of hardware, which requires a table reformat et al. Not to "report rumours." [edit] Image Tagging for Image:Tendulkar.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tendulkar.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Raja.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Raja.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Splash - tk 11:56, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Note in particular that the problem is that just because an image is given away for free does not make it public domain. Someone still owns the copyright to that image, so for example the production of derivative works or commercial use probably is not allowed, which it would be for public domain images. The most we are likely to be claim is fair use, if you can write a detailed rationale for why Wiki's use of it might be fair. See WP:FUC. -Splash - tk 11:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for updating the image page. I think your claim of fair use is fine. One the public domain point, however, I should clarify something. When I referred to commerical use, I had in mind the fact that people come along to Wikipedia and can freely re-use the content they find here (apart from fair use images, of course). Labelling an image as public domain implies that anyone anywhere can use that image for any purpose, whether it is a commercial, education or any other use they have in mind. So whilst the situation of the image probably does allow its use in the context of Wikipedia, it doens't automatically force it into the public domain. This is a minor, technical point, however, given the accurate fair use claim you have made. To that end, I've just removed the sentence about public domain from the image's description page, and now I think everything is fine. -Splash - tk 12:52, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia talk:Notice board for India-related topics/Kerala

Hello! Can you please add Wikipedia talk:Notice board for India-related topics/Kerala to your watchlist, so that you don't miss out on the Kerala related discussions? Thanks! -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK10:19, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pradip Somasundaran

This is a message to all Category:Kerala Wikipedians

I want your opinion on this particular person Pradip Somasundaran. He claims to be a famous singer in Kerala. Now being a Malayalee, I have not heard of this person before, so I wonder whether or not you have heard of him before and set this issue straight. If so, then please let your opinion be counted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pradip Somasundaran. Please note that by voicing your opinion as a Malayalee/Keralite will add more weight to your words.

Many Thanks --Ageo020 21:42, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Need for Speed Most Wanted.jpg

Hi.

Could you provide a justification in Talk:Need for Speed: Most Wanted on why the PC box art of Need for Speed: Most Wanted is more important than the Xbox 360 version? As much as most of the versions were released at the same time, the Xbox 360 cover art is more informative in a sense that it suggests the game is an Xbox 360 launch title; there doesn't seem to be anything particular notable about the PC version's box art, nor those that were released on other existing platforms (PS2, Xbox and the GameCube, just to name a few).

A quick response is appreciated. Thanks. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 12:08, 2 October 2006 (UTC) ╫

Thanks for the response. The policy as to which cover art to pick isn't official, but according to one editor, PC covers arts are usually preferable because they avoid (on occasions) using the wide platform banner at the top (which are standard on PS2 and Xbox cover arts), maximizing the space depicting the actual cover art itself. That's agreeable, given that the cover art itself should be the most important aspect of the image, and overrides the need to illustrate a cover art just because it represents a special aspect of the platform.

I've responded to replace the current version of the cover art with another PC cover art (DVD). The reason being that the current version is cluttered with an additional PC-CDROM tag, compared to the Xbox 360 version, and the cover art's ESRB RP rating tag is sort of out-of-date (the new version has a PEGI tag, but it's an existing rating). Hopefully, this should settle this issue. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 20:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC) ╫

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:NFS U PC.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:NFS U PC.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 11:22, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Need for Speed: Underground

Thanks for your concern, but I'm not sure what you mean by your uploading problem, as the uploading function shouldn't even fail in dial-up connections. Could you provide the names given the new images? Neither Image:NFS U PC.jpg nor Image:Nfsubox.jpg have detected any new image uploads. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 15:04, 26 November 2006 (UTC) ╫

The lag when updating image is common but addressable. I have encountered this "image distortion" issue a few times, but after a while, the new version usually shows up. But as stated, I'm haven't find any clue that indicates Image:NFS U PC.jpg or Image:Nfsubox.jpg have been updated, so I'm not sure which image you are referring to. Usually, if an image is uploaded to another image with the same name, the image's page should record any replacements. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 17:58, 26 November 2006 (UTC) ╫
Unfortunately, I'm really busy right now, and I'm not the position to spend some time looking for a proper cover art. I'm afraid you have to look for someone else to do this. Sorry. :( ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 18:36, 26 November 2006 (UTC) ╫

[edit] PC Tools (Windows software suite)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article PC Tools (Windows software suite), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. intgr 03:11, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
