Saigon Opera House is a counterpoise to the Hanoi Opera House (built in 1911, shaped in Garnier Opera House in Paris, 900 seats by architect Broger et Harloy). Saigon Opera House owns its sepcific charateristics, it was designed by architect Félix Olivier, the construction was under supervision of architects Ernest Guichard Eugène Ferret in 1900. Its architectural style is influenced by flamboyant style of The 3rd Republic of France. The Façade is shaped in Petit Palais built in the same year in France. The inner decor was well equipped with perfect sound and lighting. The house includes one floor and 2 stories, capable to accomodate 1800 seats. All the inscriptions, decor and furnitures were drawn by a famous French artist and sent from France. However, the façade decor faced some criticisms. According to Gothique style, the house facade was decorated with inscription and relievos (like City Hall), therefore, it was commented as complicated. In 1943, some such complicated decoration was removed. In 1998, on the occasion of 300th anniversity of Saigon, the city government had some Façade decor restored.
