Tripura is a state of India that has produced a wide variety of folk music. The musician Hemanta Jamatia gained major renowned beginning in about 1979, when he became a musical representative for the independist Tripura National Volunteers He later on surrendered and returnd to normal life and dedicated in the folk music of Tripuri People. In recognition of his contribution to folk and modern music of Tripuri language he was awared with higest honour in the field of music by Govt. of India's Sangeet Natak Academy.

Tripuri's use the musical instruments like Kham made of wood and animal skin, Sumui(flute) made of Bamboo,Sarinda, Chongpreng, Dangdu and cymbal are very famous and popular among indegenous Tripuri People.
