[edit] Access to game's music
I'd be very much interested to know what a lot of the music for the game actually is - there are some fantastic Classical music compositions, and not just a 'greatest hits' of some of the genre's best known works.
I've worked out what a few of the pieces are, maybe I'll put them up some time. Anyway, what I wanted to say was that the pieces of music can be listened to individually from the computer's hard disk. On my PC, the directory route is: Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Sounds. From here you can access the various different sounds that the game uses, including in the 'Soundtrack' folder the background music, divided into era.
Unfortunately there is not always sufficient information in the sound file title to always totally narrow down the exact piece. If anyone knows exactly which piece 'MozartAdagio' is, please let me know! Most of the Modern era pieces are by the American composer John Adams.
Also, if anyone knows which orchestra/conductor did Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, Op. 72: No. 4 in D-flat Major: Allegretto Grazioso, titled 'DvorakSlavonic12' in the game, then again please tell - it's a much richer version than any others I've heard!

I really enjoyed the soundtrack for this game and was disappointed that there was barely any information for what each song was. Wanting to find out what each song was, I went through and matched up all the music with samples on iTunes, figuring they'd be pretty reliable. People can make corrections if they find any but all the background music in the game is there now.

Great work on the article. I found myself wondering how many of these songs I already had. Especially the choir music from Palestrina. I would like to suggest however that this article be added into the main article for Civ4. The link to the music article is buried in the article for Civ4. [edit] Two corrections and some more information
I just spent hours independently identifying pieces for my computer game music collection before it occurred to me that someone might have tried this before (yes, this is what prompted me to register here). I found some mislabeled pieces, and I've fixed them. The especially tricky one was figuring out that "Des Prez Lament" is not actually by Des Prez, but by a composer who isn't even known to Wikipedia! The identification of the Lament and of "MozartAdagio" (which ought to be clearly not a symphonic piece, since it doesn't have any stringed instruments) can be verified by listening to them on CD selling Web sites.
