Global Warming Why is ice at the top of mountains in East Africa (Kenya and Kirimanjaro) diminishing. One is tempted to say that it is because increase in temperature will course the ice to melt. However the temperatures up there are well below zero and slight increases cannot cause melting. One should note also that the pressure up there is very low. The low pressure is indeed why the ice disappers, but it does not melt, it sublimes
