Nathan Robert Ellington (born July 2, 1981 in Bradford, West Yorkshire) is an English professional footballer. 'The Duke'(nicknamed after legendary jazz artiste Duke Ellington), a striker, currently plays for West Bromwich Albion.

He began his career with non-league Walton & Hersham F.C. before moving to Bristol Rovers. In February 2003 he was transferred to Paul Jewell's Wigan Athletic for £1.2 million. After the 2004-05 season, in which he led the Football League Championship in goal scoring while helping Wigan earn promotion to England's top flight for the first time in their history, Ellington became one of the more desirable properties in English football. He joined West Bromwich Albion on 16 August 2005 for £3,000,001. Wigan and Ellington were unable to agree a new contract and West Bromwich Albion used a clause in his existing contract that allowed him to leave Wigan for any fee over £3m.

He struggled in his first ever season in the Premiership as his season was damaged by a series of niggling injuries and a shoulder problem, but he still managed to bag 8 goals for the Baggies. His first goals for West Brom came against old club Bradford in the FA Cup, Ellingtons first Premiership goals came in the 4 - 0 win against Everton, he scored a goal either half by a penalty and a long ranger. He became quite unpopular with the West Brom fans towards the end of the same season because of his complaint of a "bruised toe", and his refusal to have painkilling injections to help him through such a minor complaint. He almost redeemed himself near the end of the season though, he scored for Albion in the 1 - 1 draw with Birmingham and almost went on to score the winner as a substitute, unfortunately he hit the woodwork. In this current season Ellington has 5 goals with the Albion.

After failing to settle in the area, Ellington submitted a transfer request in the 2007 January transfer window. Although Ellington wished to leave the club, West Bromwich Albion chairman annouced he would only sell if it was right for the club, as he is still highly rated by manager Tony Mowbray. Former club Wigan expressed an interest and are thought to have tabled several bids. However Wigan Athletic failed to meet West Bromwich Albion's valuation and Ellington remains at the club, returning to the first team after not being in the squad in January due to a stress related illness.
