National Hugging Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
National Hugging Day has been celebrated on January 21st in a number of nations, such as the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Germany and Russia. It was founded in 1986 by Reverend Kevin Zaborney, who also founded National Whiner's Day on December 26th of that same year.
This holiday was quickly picked up by many schools, nursing homes, child-care facilities, churches, and many other organizations. The purpose is to encourage families and friends to hug one another more often, but always ask first when it comes to co-workers and strangers!
