The National Polytechnic Institute (in Spanish: Instituto Politécnico Nacional, IPN) is one of the largest Mexican public universities. Founded in 1936 during the administration of President Lázaro Cárdenas del Río with the purpose of increasing the industrial activities and cover the social necessities.
The education levels that the Politecnico have are 3: -Bachelor or high school in the CECyT´s (16). -Colleges (24) -Postgraduated and Research Centers (24).
it have presence in 19 mexican states.
The Institute focuses on technical degrees. According to its 2005 annual report, it offers 64 different undergraduate and over 108 graduate programs.
The university operates XEIPN-TV, Once TV (Eleven TV, after XEIPN's channel number), a cultural TV broadcast station based in Mexico City. It features original cultural, scientific, and entertainment programming as well as foreign shows (notably BBC productions). It also shows classic, rare, and non-commercial films from all over the world.
