Navelim
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The village of Navelim is located outside the city of Margao, the second largest city after the capital city of Goa, Panaji (Panjim).
Annexed by the Portuguese in the 16th century, Goa is famously the most Christian of Indian states. Christianity is not in fact the majority religion - only about a third of Goans are Christians.
Navelim's church was first built by the Jesuits in the 1590s; the present, Portuguese-style whitewashed structure was constructed later on when the older building became too small. The reconstruction was apparently financed by a local merchant who was saved from bankruptcy through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Navelim is rapidly expanding to become Margao's fastest growing suburbian areas.Other landmarks include the railway station and the infamous Sky Bus
