Nazism (national socialism) was the ideology held by the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, commonly called NSDAP or the Nazi Party). The word Nazism is most often used in connection with the government of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945 (the "Third Reich"). Nazism combines racism, nationalism, anti-Semitism and anti-communism in a way that combines fascist organicism, integralism, and a belief in the existence of a "master race". The Nazis believed in the superiority of an Aryan master race, advocated individual leadership in a strong, centralized government, and claimed to be defending Germany and the entire Western world against communism and Jewish subversion.
