Neal Pollack

Neal Pollack is an American satirist currently living in Los Angeles. Alternadad, his memoir about his early years as a parent, was published in January 2007 and was recently optioned by Warner Brothers Pictures. He used to be a frequent contributor to McSweeney's (which also published his first book, The Neal Pollack Anthology of American Literature), and organized the McSweeneys Festival of Books Music and Art, which subsequently grew into the 215 Festival. Before that he lived in Chicago, where he wrote for The Chicago Reader.
Pollack's rock-n-roll novel Never Mind The Pollacks was optioned for film. He's contributed satire and journalism to many publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Details, and GQ. Chicago Noir, a collection of crime stories that he edited, was published in September 2005 by Akashic Books.
In 2000, Pollack was named the "Hot Writer" by Rolling Stone magazine and was named a "Writer To Watch" in 2002 by the now-defunct Book Magazine. The Neal Pollack Anthology Of American Literature won a 2001 Firecracker Award for best independently-published fiction. Pollack also suffered a brief stint as a lead singer in his band, The Neal Pollack Invasion, which continues to play occasional shows. The blog on his website, [1]The Maelstrom, records Pollack's continuing adventures with his son Elijah, his wife (the painter Regina Allen), his Boston Terrier, Hercules, and various cats.
