New Jersey United States Senate election, 2008

The New Jersey Senate election of 2008 will be held on November 4, 2008. The seat is currently being held by Senator Frank Lautenberg who won reelection back to the Senate in 2002.
Senator Lautenberg has indicated that he will seek reelection in 2008, however there is speculation that he could retire. In the event that he chooses to retire the following Democrats could choose to run for the seat:
- Congressman Rob Andrews
- Congressman Rush Holt
- Congressman Frank Pallone
- State Senator John Adler
The following Republicans have expressed interest or are thought to be possible candidates:
- State Senator Thomas Kean, Jr.
- Businesswoman Anne Evans Estabrook
- Congressman Frank LoBiondo
- Assemblyman Bill Baroni
- Assemblyman Michael J. Doherty
[edit] Chris Christie Rules Out Bid
On January 8, 2007 U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie announced that he would be staying on in his current position until at least the beginning of 2008 effectively ruling out a bid for the current seat being held by Senator Frank Lautenberg.
