NewsWatch
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NewsWatch is a television news music package composed by Danny Baker and Frank Gari of Gari Communications, Inc. Originally known as "KGW News" (BMI), the package was commissioned by KGW in Portland, Oregon in 1993. The package, as used in 1993, comprised two parts: one was for KGW's newscasts, the other was for a local news magazine show called Good Evening, produced by KGW.
KGW re-branded as Northwest Newschannel 8 in 1994, and debuted an update to the package. Frank Gari then proceeded to take the original version of the package (excluding a few themes from the Good Evening version) and syndicate it under the name KGW News Package Composite. Shortly afterwards, Gari re-named the package to NewsWatch.
KGW had more updates made to the package in 1997 and 1998 which featured the NBC chimes, but replaced it in 2000 with a syndicated package by another composer (The Tower by 615 Music). Gari then took most of the themes from KGW's 1994 update and added them to NewsWatch.
Newswatch (without the capital "W") is also a brand for local newscasts.
