A NOTE FROM A RECENT VISITOR:

Recently, I had an opportunity to asssist my sister and her husband with their new Kettle Corn Business at the Moonshine Festival which was held on the main street of New Straitsville.

I just wanted to say how pleasantly surprised we were with people we encountered during the five day event. The owner of PaPa Tom's eatery accross the street from our booth came over to welcome us and introduced himself. Not only did he do this, but he visited us on several occasions to see how we were doing and just say hello.

During our stay, we also visited the local library to use the internet. As you know, cell phones and wireless laptops do not work in your area. The ladies who run the library were very nice to us and one even stopped by our booth to say hello several times. They made us feel as if we were their neighbors!

After several days of a few rain storms and a few of sun, it was Monday afternoon and almost time to wrap up the festival. The vendor behind our location didn't want to move right away. This is where our biggest surpirse comes in. During the festival, several part-time police officers would stop by frequently to check on us and just talk. One officer...I only know he is an Ohio University student studying History, found out that we were somewhat blocked in our spot. He immediately offered to help find assistance for us. He came back with about six volunteer fire fighters! Not only did they help pull our trailer into the street, they actually helped my sister and I load it! We were just amazed at their kindness! Although we did not get their names we wanted to make sure that they received some sort of recognition for their help. All we had to offer them was water and several bags of popcorn! And the great part is they didn't even expect that!

This may not seem important to most people, but my sister and I felt it necessary to acknowledge such acts of kindness. Even the Police Officer, Jason, went out of his way to check on us. Also, his wife was helping to patrol and spoke to us frequently. We just wish we had gotten everyone's names, but in the rush to get on the road and also not block the road any longer than we had to, we didn't take the time to ask.
