James Nicholas "Nick" Ayers was the campaign manager of Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue's 2006 reelection bid[1] and now serves as the executive director of the Republican Governors Association, a position to which Perdue appointed him.[2].
A native of Cobb County, Georgia, Ayers attended Kennesaw State University and worked at a bank owned by former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes before leaving both to help Perdue defeat Barnes in 2002.
He was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol on October 25, 2006 for drunk driving. The Governor stated that he was aware of the arrest but would keep retain him as campaign manager. Ayers said that he "deeply regret[ted] this incident" , which occurred just days before Perdue's reelection.
