[edit] Early Life
Born, April 25th 1983 in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Youngest of 3 children to Philip and Julia Stepney. He moved across the Midlands to Nottinghamshire at the age of 3, via his Father's job as an engineering underwriter for Commercial Union.
He started school at Holly Hill in the local school in Selston (his hometown). He settled well despite being sometimes bullied and feeling un-easy with school. He gained close friends and left school with very glowing reports and references.
However, once moving to Matthew Holland Secondary School he found his interest and concentration slipped and after a year his behaviour dropped dramatically. Often late or absent from school, he was constantly in trouble and his earlier promise seemed gone for good as he left with disappointing grades after high expectations. He gained a placement on a Media Studies NVQ course at West Notts College, Mansfield. Here he studied Media with aspirations to get involved with journalism. However, after only 3 months he left after learning Journalism was only a very small part of the course despite promises at the start. He began to work for a living at the age of 16.
[edit] Family
Nick is the youngest of 3 children from Father, Philip Stepney and Mother, Julia Stepney. His older brother David is just over 6 years older (b.10th March 1977) and his older Sister, Claire is 5 years older (b.19th June 1978) He has 2 nephews. Jake Stepney (b.25th December 2001) and Joshua William Densley (b.18th February 2005). He also has a niece, Olivia Paige Densley (b.26th June 2001)
[edit] Chelsea School of Excellence
When he was 15, Nick won a national Daily Star competition to have a week's training down at Chelsea Football Club (his life-long supported team). It was a writing competition which printed his picture in the national paper. He went to train down at Harlington Training facilities, London. He went with close friend, Karl Bainbridge. Meeting several senior players and future stars whilst there.
[edit] Football Career
Started his career for rival village side, Bagthorpe Athletic. Playing only once before opting for his local side, Selston. Quickly found his feet as a quick footed, pacey and clinical striker. Finding it hard with his small frame and stature sometimes. His early career blossomed with a flourishing striking partnership with Karl Seery. Mustering some 45 goals between them each season. It soon became apparant his interest and attitude didn't match his talents as he often turned up late and sometimes missed matches due to his lack of enthusiasm. Scouted by several local clubs including, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Chesterfield FC and even Bristol City. They were quick to note his seemingly dis-interested nature and interest waned. Despite several reconsiliasion attempts his never stayed in the game long enough to rebuild his promising early days. Even an opportunity at Alfreton Town Reserves couldn't sway him from his nontchelont attitude and lack of dedication. It was confirmed, Stepney had torn his meniscus (cartiledge) and he is currently awaiting keyhole surgery. He is expected to start training at the start of June. He has declared his intentions to return, fully-fit, at the start of next season.
[edit] Personal Life
From the age of 15, Nick has been nightclubbing and shortly became a "weekend binge-drinker". He has admitted, although enjoying his youth, his health took a noticeable drop and weight-gain led to bouts depression in parts. In March of 2006, he had tests which revealed slight Liver damage. Since then he has focussed on what matters most to him and getting his health and figure back. "In all the years I was drinking heavily on the weekends, I never thought what effects it could have until I was older. Now I think back, there's a lot more I could have done for myself with the thousands I've flushed down the drain."
Nick is currently a Warehouse Supervisor for a small company in Huthwaite, Nottingham. He is very ambitious and has big aspirations for the future.
He is in a very serious relationship with 19-year old, Sally Cope from neighbouring village, Jacksdale. Nick met Sally on a night out in Mansfield on August 26th 2005. His past relationship demise almost led to him throwing away what he now describes as "the best thing I've ever had" The couple have grown strong and very close, very quickley. They have holidayed in Greece (May 2006) and have recently visited Prague for a 4-night trip (Nov 2006)
