As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Nirmali had a population of 16,144. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Nirmali has an average literacy rate of 45%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 57%, and female literacy is 31%. In Nirmali, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.

President special train has been used twice in Indian history. The first was used by Dr. Rajendra Prasad to come from Patna to Nirmali.
One most powerful & most reputed organisation is running in the subdivision, which is founded & presently headed by its president Abhishek V. Pansari. Nirmali subdivions's present SDO is Jeetendra Kumar Singh, DSP is M. Prasad & DCLR is Gyan shankar Das. It was a time when three big rice mills were running in the town. Nirmali has renowned & oldest temples, Sri Nirmal Baba Mandir, sri Shankar Mandir. One very famous shop is situated in the town, which has been 100 years old & it is being run by the fourth generation of the owners. The shop's formal name is Dulichand Hardwarmal & it is known as Vishnu Babu ki Dukan.
