Rear Admiral Norah Satie is a character from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, The Drumhead, although she was mentioned in passing in other episodes. The character was played by British actress Jean Simmons.
Admiral Satie issued the formal orders for Captain Jean-Luc Picard to take command of the USS Enterprise-D effective stardate 41148 (All Good Things...)
Daughter of noted judge Aaron Satie, she was raised to treasure civil rights and intelligent debate. At meals growing up, her father taught her the basics of debating by raising an issue at the beginning of the meal, and not dismissing his children until he felt that the issue had been thoroughly discussed.
In 2364, she was one of a handful of Starfleet officers who uncovered the growing alien infiltration of Starfleet Command (while the infiltration was depicted in Conspiracy, her role in it was not revealed until The Drumhead). This, along with a long and distinguished career before it, lead to her being a noted investigator that was gifted at uncovering conspiracies.
In 2367, an investigation aboard the USS Enterprise-D got out of hand and turned into a witch hunt. Satie went so far as to call Admiral Thomas Henry of Starfleet Security to have him witness future hearings. At one of these hearings Satie made serious accusations regarding Captain Jean-Luc Picard's loyalty to the United Federation of Planets, such as suggesting that he was a willing collaborator with the Borg instead of another victim of the Borg used by them against his will, or suggesting that he was consorting with Romulans. When Picard quoted her father — "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied chains us all irrevocably." — she angrily cut him off, saying that her father loved the Federation and that she would expose Picard as a traitor. Henry then walked out of the hearing in disgust with her attitude.
The following day, Admiral Henry called an end to any more hearings by Admiral Satie. Satie left the Enterprise with her credibility destroyed once and for all. Afterwards, people were not quite so willing to trust her.
