Normad/Nomad (ノーマッド) is a character that appears in the Galaxy Angel anime.

Normad is an AI placed within a pink stuffed raccoon. He is carried around by Vanilla H and serves the Galaxy Angels by providing information and analyses. When removed from his stuffed body, his actual form is a transparent circuit board/diskette. Some of the humor in the series involve Normad’s constant put-downs toward others and inability to avoid injury.

Normad was originally a guidance program for a missile. However, being capable of logical thought, he realized that the missile’s detonation would bring about his death, and so left the silo before his mission took place. For some time, Normad drifted across space until ending up in a debris field. It was here that he was recovered by the Angels and brought to their base for salvaging. When the Angels realized the missile contained a sentient AI, they removed his programming and gave him his stuffed body.

Normad is not very sensitive to other people and often shows very little tact when talking to or about others. He holds cynical views of the Angels, frequently chastising them matter-of-factly for their seemingly inept and savage behavior. Targets of his criticism would often return the favor, inflicting various injuries upon his stuffed body. Despite his lacking empathy, however, Normad is madly in love with Vanilla and compliments her to no end. So enamored is he that on a couple occasions he would remotely operate base weaponry with the intent to harm those he sees as threats to his relationship with her. Vanilla, however, seems oblivious to his praises and periodically abuses him herself.

As his body is nothing more than a stuffed animal, Normad has no capacity for movement and must rely on Vanilla and others to carry him around. As a consequence, he is frequently in harm’s way, a problem exasperated by his demeanor toward others. He has been shot, beaten, crushed, burned, twisted, boiled, kidnapped, blasted, transmogrified, and molested at least once. Amazingly, the disk within his body is never damaged.

In one episode (Season 1, Episode 24), Normad reveals his original purpose. He was created to destroy Kyutaro, a large dice that can feel humans' hostility. He offers to go back into his missile and destroy Kyutaro, much to the agony of the Galaxy Angels who cannot bare to see him go. When Kyutaro is destroyed, the Galaxy Angel assume that Normad was destroyed as well. As it turns out, Commander Volcott had only copied Normad's data into the missile and Normad controlled the missile from his normal stuffed animal body, angering the Angels for having to worry about him.
