The North Borneo Railway was an enterprise of the British North Borneo Company, who built the initial rail line from the Bukau River, north to Beaufort and south to Weston, on Brunei Bay, in the 1890s in what later became Sabah. The railway system was recently revived and remodelled to suit tourism needs while still using the same British Vulcan steam locomotive built in 1954.
The simple rail route begins In Kota Kinabalu and ends at Tenom. Its six major stations are:
- Kota Kinabalu
- Tanjung Aru
- Papar
