[edit] History
NC 345 was formed in 1922. It ran from Wanchese to Manteo and was originally seven miles. Later in the twenties, NC 345 was extended to Fort Raleigh Nat'l Monument and then totalled 12 miles.
By 1946, US 64 replaced NC 345 into Manteo, giving NC 345 its basic alignment to this day. Later, the south end of NC 345 was rerouted within the borders of Wanchese. This old route is Old Wharf Road, and the basic alignment between it and the current road is practically the same.
