[edit] History of Name
Before the floodplains along the Mississippi River were drained, levies constructed, and the natural changes in the course of these rivers controlled, at times North River and nearby South River joined as they reached their confluence with the larger river. Originally they were named North Two Rivers and South Two Rivers, with the names being shortened to North River and South River over time and possibly in part being a reflection of their position in relation to Palmyra, the largest town located in the drainage of these rivers.
