Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church

Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church(NELC) is a multi-lingual Christian church that is located in three states of North India - Bihar, Assam and Bengal and extended into Nepal [1] NELC is also working in Bhutan. NELC was founded in 1868 by Hans Peter Boerresen, a Dane, and Lars Olsen Skrefsrud, a Norwegian. [2]. NElc have had its present name since 1958 and it's headquarter is situated in Dumka, a growing educational center northeast of Calcutta. The church provides Theological training and education. The NELC is one of ten members of the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India
Santals form the majority of the church members, with Boros and Bengali comprise most of the rest of the members.
NELC is running several health centers and comunity health programs. NELC have it's main hospital in Mohulpari.
