Nortonville, California

Nortonville, California was founded by Noah Norton in 1855. It was previously a coal mining site with home to many Welsh miners. In 1885, the owner of the coal mine moved all the coal miners from Nortonville to Black Diamond, Washington Territory, due to lack of funds to run the mine. Currently what had left behind at Nortonville is a deserted area with a old Nortonville Cemetery. Four other coal mining towns were established in the same district: Somersville, Stewartville, West Hartley and Judsonville.

Nortonville is located on Somersville Road in the city of Antioch, Contra Costa, California. The town site is now part of the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve.
