NovaLogic is a computer game software developer and publisher established in 1985 and based in Calabasas, California. NovaLogic, Inc. was formed by President and CEO, John Garcia [1]. Garcia's background in computer software started in Southern California in the early 80's, when he worked as a programmer at DataSoft. Later, as vice president of software development, he headed a department of 22 programmers and was responsible for the development of more than 40 software titles.
At NovaLogic, Garcia has almost single-handedly guided the company, from small-time arcade conversions to large-scale development of best-selling CD-ROM titles. The company remains to this day privately owned, which after 15 years in this industry, is something of an achievement[2]. Electronic Arts, however, is the primary outside shareholder.
- NovaLogic is best known for the Delta Force series of games and the Comanche Series of games
- NovaLogic created the 1987 PC port of Bubble Bobble
- In 1994, NovaLogic set up their European office in London, England[1].
- In 1997, NovaLogic first launched their free online online matchmaking service, NovaWorld. This service allows for large online battles and stat tracking[1].
- In 1999, NovaLogic started NovaLogic Systems, Inc. (NLS) which made training simulations for the US Army[1].
- In 2004, NovaLogic launched Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising which allowed up to 150 players. This set a world record for the largest non-subscription FPS game at the time[3] [4].
- In 2005, NovaLogic launched Delta Force: Black Hawk Down for the Xbox which allowed up to 50 players in a multiplayer game. This broke the record for the largest console muliplayer battles at the time[5].
- In 2005 Novalogic was fined $153,500 by the Business Software Alliance after an audit found they had unlicensed copies of software by Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, FileMaker, Macromedia, Microsoft and Symantec. The BSA found out after someone rang their piracy hotline[6].
