'Novato High School' (NHS) is a high school located in the center of Novato, California in the County of Marin [[[[1]]] ] in the United States and works to serve the diverse needs of our students and the greater community. Of the students at the school, the two largest ethnic groups are White (67.1%) and Latino (20.1%). The remainder of the school community is comprised of Black (4%), Asian (5.7%), and Identifying as other ethnic categories (3.1%).

The School built in 1955, is one of two comprehensive high schools in the Novato Unified School District (NUSD). NHS rests on a thirty-eight acre site,with two gymnasiums, a Lecture Hall/Performing Arts Center, three computer centers, a library, dance studio, weight room, and a music room. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, basketball courts, softball and baseball diamonds, a football stadium, soccer field, and a swimming pool. These facilities are utilized by students and other groups from the greater community.

In addition to the various NHS facilities, our site is also home to 'Marin Oaks High School' , an alternative high school. Marin Oaks serves approximately 70 students from throughout the county who benefit from a comprehensive curriculum in an alternative setting with more one on one attention. Though Novato High School and Marin Oaks share a Principal, an Assistant Principal is assigned to Marin Oaks on a full-time basis. It is also worth noting that Marin Oaks has its own separate WASC accreditation process.

In an attempt to meet the diverse needs of our student population, we work diligently to offer a comprehensive academic program including a variety of college preparatory courses, along with Honors and Advance Placement classes, fine and performing arts classes, and industrial arts courses. Additionally, the school supports our award winning Air Force Junior ROTC Program, which provides a curriculum focused on aerospace and science. We are also proud of the Marin School of Arts (MSA), which has already earned a myriad of awards. MSA requires either audition or a portfolio of work for admission. Students attend required classes mainstreamed with Novato High Students and then attend classes in their selected Arts categories. The offered elective classes are Film and Video, Visual Arts, Choir, Theater Arts, Musical Theater, Dance, Instrumental Music, and Creative Writing.

We are equally proud of Support Services provided to insure success for those students who require additional resources. The ELD Program utilizes a structure that allows students to move through the various levels as they strengthen their language skills.

NHS enjoys a rich tradition of extensive parent involvement. This is evidenced by the MSA Boosters, Sports Boosters, English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), PTSA, Drama Boosters, Site Leadership Team, Parent Beautification Committee, among others. These groups contribute to the vision of the school, as they help to guide site based decision making. They also provide invaluable financial support to maximize resources available to students.

Teaching staff work with administration during faculty meetings, where open discussion about school issues take place. The intent at these meetings, and all other professional interactions on site, is to foster a welcoming environment for all stakeholders, to insure a sense of community and to make this the best possible place for learning.

This year was a very good one for Novato High's Football Team. With a 12-1 record, one loss coming to Foothill High School, the #2 team in the Bay Area, only behind De La Salle, also a 4A school, Novato High is 2A. Their defense gave up 7 points to MCAL teams this season, all of which coming in the 4th quarter, while 2nd and 3rd string players were in. Not including Foothill, Novato only had one non-blowout game, Seaside, which they won 21-14. Novato beat crosstown rival San Marin, 63-0, and their closest MCAL game was Justin Sienna, 27-0. They won MCAL, and in the NCS play-offs, beat San Rafael, 57-0, and Del Norte, 58-0. That makes their 3rd NCS 2A Redwood Empire Championship since 2002, (2002, 2005, 2006) This year was the first year that the Redwood Empire played the East Bay, and in that game, Novato beat Miramonte at the Oakland Coliseum the only way they know how to win, in blowout fashion, 48-3. Despite not getting picked to go to the State Championship, six of their defensive starters were chosen for MCAL First Team All League, Back of the Year, and Lineman of the Year, were both from Novato High, three of their defensive players were 2nd team All League, with five offensive starters chosen for 1st team All League.

Novato High School has many Varsity Sports Teams. The NHS Varisty Water Polo team got third place at MCAL in 2005 and 2006. The football program has won three NCS titles in the last five years (02,05,06).
