Novouralsk (Russian: Новоура́льск) is a closed town in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia. It is located at . Population: 95,414 (2002 Census).

Novouralsk is one of the first centres of nuclear industry in the Middle Urals. In 1946, the first plant for the producing of enriched uranium was opened, and in 1949 materials for the first Soviet Union's nuclear bomb were produced.
[edit] Economy and industry
Today, one of the largest plants in the Urals—Urals Electrochemical Industrial Complex (УЭХК)—is located here. In 1992, it received the European award of the "Trading Leaders Club" for its high quality production.
Another major industrial enterprise is the Urals Auto Motor Plant (УАМЗ), which was founded in 1967. It is the subsidiary of the Likhachyov Moscow's Auto Motor Plant. But the Urals Auto Motor Plant went broke in 2000. The majority of its staff was hired and it stopped producing any output. As 25 % of Novouralsk population worked at this plant the economy of the city declined. A lot of UAMP's by-establishments were also closed or sold to Yekaterinburg.

The population of Novouralsk is strongly going down. In the year 2006 less people were born (approximately 400) than died (approximately 900). Older people are the majority of the population. The youth prefers to move to Yekaterinburg where they can find better jobs and opportunities.

Novouralsk's educational facilities include Novouralsks Engineering Physical Institute, Polytechnic College, Medical College, Pedagogical College. There are also 22 secondary schools and 27 kindergartens.
There are also the Youth's Centre of Art, the Station of Young Technicians, a musical school, a drawing school, and a number of sports clubs.
Novouralsk has three libraries, two movie theatres, the museum of local lore, the Puppet Theatre, several newspapers and television channels.
There are a lot of stadiums, swimming pools, sports complexes, a sports gym, a covered hockey ground, and a skiing route.
Novouralsk has its own amusement park, it was established in the year 1988 by the decision of the Novouralsk's government

The world-famed yacht championship (Java Trophy) is held in Novouralsk once in 4 years.
