Number 57 is an English (not British) Wikipedian who also considers himself to be an honorary Israeli having lived there for several years. His username is derived from the shirt number he was given when playing for his university football team, and is a sad reflection on his playing ability. He believes referring to oneself in the third person is pompous, but secretly enjoys doing so.

His specialist subjects on Wikipedia are Israeli politics, Non-League football and the English language, particularly the alphabet. As a result of an apparent lack of interest from anyone else in the English-speaking world, Number 57 has started a whole bunch of articles on Israeli politics, as well as several others on elections in other countries and a few more on football clubs and leagues. Annoyed by a lack of order in Wikipedia, he has also created a series of election templates and standardised those already in existence.

As well as pomposity, Number 57 also enjoys pedantry, and will spend the first fifteen minutes of any visit to a foreign restaurant pointing out spelling mistakes in the menu to his friends. This may or may not have contributed to the statistically significant drop in the number of invitations to dinner he has received recently.

Number 57 speaks and reads English and Hebrew. As a result of a one year Master's degree being stretched out over two years and the subsequent boredom, he has also learnt to read in Cyrillic and Arabic.

Lastly, he has a variety of political beliefs that suggest he is rather confused about whether he is right-wing or left-wing. The only thing he is sure about is that every ethnic group should have the right to an independent homeland, even those that consider sheep innards to be a national dish. If you would like to make suggestions as to his political leanings, use the userboxes below as a guide.
